Custom SLC and the C-Loop
This was my first interview with two members of the Custom SLR team. The C-Loop was a product design project yo create a small devise to help photographers carry their camera better. Custom SLC has run two very successful Kickstarter projects. We talk mostly about their first project.
Computer History Zine
In this interview I talked with David Greelish about his project to make a book out of his old computer history newsletters. David use to run a computer history “zine” which talked all about history of home-brew computing. His project was to turn his nine volume zine into a book. To me this is an example of the type of project Kickstarter is perfect for. David went for a reasonable funding goal and had an existing audience.
Capture Clip
The Capture Clip was one of the biggest projects of 2011 raising over $300,000. I talked with Peter Dering about all the work that went into making his idea a reality. He talks about how he had to continually refine his pitch until he got to the very core of his idea. He also says that most of the work was done before the project was live and that campaign was really the product launch.
The Glif
The Glif is probably one of the most successful and most referenced product design projects. I talked with Dan Provost about their experiences running two successful Kickstarter projects. Dan had a lot of great insights about how long to run a project and why shorter might be better.
